UPDATE 1-Soccer-Egypt's top league match will go ahead as scheduled
CAIRO, June 29 (Reuters) - (recasts after Egyptian FA u-turn)
The top flight match between Al Ahly and Zamalek will go ahead as originally scheduled on Wednesday after Egypt's soccer federation made a u-turn on an earlier decision to postpone the showdown following clashes in central Cairo between hundreds of stone-throwing youths and police.
The Ministry of Interior said on its Facebook page that the game will be played as scheduled in consideration of "the demands of the fans and to protect the reputation of Egyptian sports and Egypt in front of international public opinion."
Police in the capital's Tahrir Square fired tear gas overnight to disperse the crowd who had gathered to demand swifter trials of officials of former President Hosni Mubarak.
The clashes left more than 50 injured.
The head of Egypt's football league, Samir Zaher had earlier told Reuters that security requested the postponement of the match. (Reporting by Ashraf Hamed, writing by Yasmine Saleh, editing by Pritha Sarkar)
