TEHRAN, July 2 (Reuters) - A close aide to Iranian human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi has been released from jail after three weeks in detention, an opposition website said on Friday.

Narges Mohamadi, who works for the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize winner, was arrested on June 10, two days before the one-year anniversary of the disputed re-election of hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had called for the release of Mohamadi along with other dissidents held in Iran where the government says it is battling "sedition" actively encouraged by Washington and other hostile countries.

Kaleme website quoted Mohamadi's husband speaking from outside Tehran's Evin jail. "I spoke to her just now and she said she's out the prison gates and I am waiting for her here," Taghi Rahmani said.

Dozens of activists, journalists and students were arrested in the days before the election anniversary in an apparent attempt to subdue any possible repeat of last year's street protests, the biggest since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution.

Thousands of people were arrested after the election. Most have since been freed, though dozens, including former senior officials, have been jailed for up to 16 years. At least two have been hanged.   Continued...
