Gold flat, tempered by stronger dollar

Mon Jan 17, 2011 4:28pm GMT

 * Gold XAU= ends little changed on the day, at $1,359.30 an
ounce by 1620 GMT, compared with $1,360.85 late in New York on
Friday. Stronger dollar .DXY tempers gains stemming from
better physical demand and investor concern over the persisting
problems of the euro zone and its debt levels.
 * Silver XAG= echoes softness in the gold price, last down at
$28.23, from $28.42 on Friday. Gold/silver ratio reaches 48.12,
the highest in a month -- reflecting silver's underperformance
relative to gold.
 * Platinum XPT= falls to $1,801.74 an ounce from $1,809.00 an
ounce on Friday, yet still less than 2 percent away from last
week's 30-month high at $1,826.74.
 * Palladium XPD= last at $791.72, compared with $791.50 on
Friday.
