Golf-Horsey wins Hassan II Trophy as Davies misses his chance
RABAT, April 3 (Reuters) - Briton David Horsey beat holder Rhys Davies and South African Jaco Van Zyl to win the Hassan II Trophy after a dramatic final round of missed putts and a hole-in-one on Sunday.
Horsey galloped away from his rivals with an ace at the second, but the world number 115 faltered on the 18th with a double-bogey six and carded a three-under-par 69 for a 13-under total of 274.
Welshman Davies had a four-foot putt at the last to retain his title but ran it past the cup to allow his playing partners into the playoff, where Horsey sealed victory with a birdie on the second extra hole.
"I couldn't believe Rhys missed that putt to win to be honest. If we had been playing match play I would have given him that putt because he is one of the best putters in the world," Horsey told the European Tour website (www.europeantour.com).
"Relieved more than anything. I made hard work of that coming down the last," added the 25-year-old Englishman after his second European Tour win.
Denmark's Thomas Bjorn signed for a course-record 62 to finish on six-under 281.
"I played well -- even with a bogey and a three-putt," said the former Ryder Cup player.
