SAfrica union, Impala Platinum to meet for wage talks
* Wage talks to resume next Monday
* Planned strike suspended
JOHANNESBURG, July 29 (Reuters) - South Africa's main mineworkers union will meet Impala Platinum (IMPJ.J: Quote) management next week for wage talks after workers suspended a strike planned for Monday, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Thursday.
"We will meet on August 2, the strike has been suspended," NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said.
The NUM is demanding a 10 percent pay rise across the board. Impala, the world's second-largest platinum producer, is offering 8 percent rises for workers in the lower pay bracket and 7.5 percent for those in a higher bracket.
Seshoka said a statement that the decision to suspend the strike was made after a request from the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) for further intervention.
NUM maintained its right to strike if the talks were not successful, the statement said. (Reporting by Olivia Kumwenda; editing by Sue Thomas)
