KHARTOUM, July 21 (Reuters) - Chad should arrest Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir for war crimes and genocide when he arrives on a visit and hand him over to the International Criminal Court, rights group Human Rights Watch said.
The ICC indicted Bashir for war crimes and crimes against humanity in war-torn Darfur last year and this month added genocide to the charges, accusing him of presiding over rape, torture and murder in the remote west of Sudan.
Bashir's visit to neighbouring Chad will be his first trip abroad since the genocide warrant and the first time he has set foot in a country which is a full member of the ICC.
"Chad should deny entry to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir or arrest him for trial at the ICC should he visit the country," New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a statement on Wednesday. Continued...
