Darfur kidnapped aid workers to return home

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Two kidnapped aid workers will return home on Monday after a three-month ordeal in Sudan's Darfur region, saying they could not wait to see their families.

Armed nomadic tribesmen abducted Dubliner Sharon Commins and Ugandan Hilda Kawuki working for the Irish Goal aid agency in July from their compound in North Darfur.

"We are very grateful...to the people of Sudan who prayed for us and kept our families strong and kept us strong," Commins told reporters after her release, looking thin and tired but smiling and waving to colleagues who welcomed her at Khartoum airport.

Both women will fly home later on Monday.
