 GLOBAL MARKETS
 Asian stocks reached a 10-year high on Thursday, riding the bull
 run in global equity markets, while the dollar sagged after the
 Federal Reserve showed a more guarded view towards
 inflation.                       
 
 WORLD OIL PRICES
 Oil prices eased on Thursday as U.S. fuel inventories rose
 despite efforts by OPEC to cut production and tighten the
 market.

 SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
 South Africa's rand firmed by more than one percent against the
 dollar for a second consecutive session on Wednesday boosted by
 a lull in local politics and some importers stepping into buy
 the currency before the rally fades.            
 
 
 AFRICA GROWTH
 The economy of sub-Saharan Africa is seen growing more slowly
 this year than previously forecast, largely due to weak
 investment and productivity, the World Bank said on
 Wednesday.            
 
 
 NIGERIA SECURITY
 The vast majority of almost 2 million Nigerians driven from
 their homes by the conflict with Boko Haram cannot return
 because of a lack of security, an aid agency said on
 Wednesday.                
 
 
 KENYA MARKETS
 The Kenyan shilling        was steady against the dollar on
 Wednesday but was perceived depreciating due to growing
 political uncertainty with direct intervention from the central
 bank likely to smooth out volatility, traders said.            
 
 
 KENYA POLITICS
 Kenya lurched deeper into political confusion on Wednesday as a
 court ruling and a parliamentary vote appeared to ease Uhuru
 Kenyatta's path to a second term as president, a day after his
 chief rival quit an election they were to contest.            
 
 
 KENYA STOCKS
 Kenyan stocks and bonds fell on Wednesday after opposition
 leader Raila Odinga pulled out of a repeat presidential election
 set for Oct. 26.                         
 
 
 KENYA EUROBOND
 Kenya's dollar-denominated 2024 sovereign bond               
 fell as much as 1.2 cents on Wednesday, according to Reuters
 data, as the country's political crisis over the election re-run
 scheduled for Oct. 26 deepened.             
 
 
 CONGO ELECTION
 An election to replace Congolese President Joseph Kabila cannot
 take place before April 2019, the electoral commission said, a
 delay that the opposition said would cause an impatient
 population to "take matters into its own hands".                
 
 
 
 CONGO MINING
 Congo's government has lifted an order requiring a joint venture
 of Chinese investors to stop exporting raw copper and cobalt,
 the mines ministry and the company said on
 Wednesday.                 
 
 
 UGANDA MARKETS
 The Ugandan shilling        was unchanged against the dollar on
 Wednesday amid slowing demand from importers and commercial
 banks.                    
 
 
 RWANDA POLITICS
 A prominent opponent of Rwandan President Paul Kagame pleaded
 not guilty on Wednesday to charges of forgery and inciting
 insurrection and said she was being prevented from accessing her
 case file to chart her defence.            
 
 
 LIBERIA ELECTION
 One of Liberia's leading political parties called for a halt in
 announcing the result of Tuesday's presidential election, citing
 irregularities in the vote.            
 
 
 IVORY COAST OIL
 Tullow Oil         has signed four production-sharing contracts
 in Ivory Coast with an initial investment of $21 million, an
 Ivorian government spokesman said on Wednesday.
 
 
 IVORY COAST INLFATION
 Price inflation in Ivory Coast, the world's top cocoa producer,
 was at 1.3 percent year-on-year in September, unchanged from
 August, data from the National Statistics Institute showed on
 Wednesday.            
 
 
 BOTSWANA HIPPOS
 Anthrax has been detected in dead hippos floating in the
 Okavango River, officials in Botswana said on Wednesday, after
 more than 100 of the animals were suspected to have been killed
 by the disease in neighbouring Namibia.            
 
 
 NIGER URANIUM
 French uranium mining and nuclear fuel group Areva NewCo will
 slash output and reduce staffing levels at its Niger mines in
 response to low uranium prices, the company and its unions
 said.                        
 
 
 ZAMBIA POLITICS
 The emergency powers invoked by Zambian President Edgar Lungu
 three months ago will expire with effect from midnight on
 Wednesday, the nation's justice minister said.            
 
 
 MAURITIUS TREASURIES
 The weighted average yield on Mauritius' 3-year Treasury bond
 fell to 2.43 percent at auction on Wednesday from 2.51 percent
 at the previous sale in September, the central bank
 said.                
 
 
 SUDAN ECONOMY
 Sudan has for the first time in 20 years begun receiving foreign
 currency inflows, the central bank said on Wednesday, days after
 the U.S. government lifted decades-old trade sanctions on the
 northern African country.             
 
 
 BURKINA FASSO POLITICS
 Burkina Faso's former foreign minister will be released from
 jail pending trial for treason over his alleged involvement in a
 coup attempt in 2015, his lawyer said on Wednesday.             
 
 
 
 GHANA INFLATION
 Ghana's annual consumer price inflation fell to 12.2 percent in
 September from 12.3 percent the previous month driven by lower
 utility prices, the statistics office said on
 Wednesday.            
 
 
 MALAWI GRAINS
 Malawi will experience normal rainfall levels during the 2017/18
 farming season, the Ministry of Natural Resources forecast on
 Wednesday, raising hopes that the country will meet most of its
 basic food needs for two years running.
