Italy can meet energy needs next winter without Russian gas-Eni CEO

TURIN, Italy, March 31 (Reuters) - Italy will be able to meet its gas needs next winter even without Russian supplies through the Ukraine, the head of Italian oil and gas group Eni said on Monday.

“We are concerned for next winter but are confident that even in the unfortunate case there are no supplies through Ukraine we can manage just the same,” Scaroni said on the sidelines of a conference.

Italy, which is dependent on imports for around 90 percent of its gas needs, takes major supplies from Russia, Libya, Algeria and Holland. (Reporting by Gianni Montani, editing by Stephen Jewkes)
