Indonesia eases access to oil and gas data to attract investment

JAKARTA, Aug 15 (Reuters) -

* Indonesia’s energy ministry has revised a regulation to ease access to data about the country’s oil and gas assets to attract investment, deputy energy minister Arcandra Tahar told reporters on Thursday

* Data of oil and gas reserve identification, its geographic location, as well as data on their initial geology survey will be made available to the public, Tahar said

* Previously, potential investors had to purchase such data from the government

* Access to other data, such as analytics results, will be available from the energy ministry for a fee

* When an oil and gas company carries out exploration on an asset, the data generated by the company related to the asset will be classified for a certain period of time, Tahar said (Reporting by Bernadette Christina Munthe; Writing by Fransiska Nangoy; Editing by Shounak Dasgupta)
