Strike extends outage at France's Havre 4 coal power plant

PARIS, Nov 7 (Reuters) - An outage at French utility EDF’s 580 megawatts (MW) Havre 4 coal power generation plant has been extended for another 24 hours until Nov. 8, a notice by power systems operator RTE showed on Wednesday.

Workers at the unit in the north of France have been on strike since Oct. 27 in protest against a French government plan to shut down power generation from coal to respect its climate change obligations.

EDF has warned that protests could hit its coal power plants in France until the end of June 2019, as France prepares legislation that could lead to the shutdown of its remaining coal-fired plants, in keeping with an election campaign promise by President Emmanuel Macron.
