Heavy weapons fire heard in central Abidjan -witnesses

ABIDJAN, March 31 (Reuters) - Heavy weapons and machinegun fire rang out on Thursday in the centre of Ivory Coast’s main city, Abidjan, Reuters witnesses said.

Members of incumbent Laurent Gbagbo’s presidential guard deployed on the streets near the presidential palace in Plateau and most of the heavy firing came from the nearby Cocody and Treichville districts, the witnesses said.
