India aims to add 17,000 MW renewable power in 2012-17

NEW DELHI, May 5 (Reuters) - India aims to add 17,000 megawatts of renewable energy during the next five-year plan period, running from 2012 to 2017, a top government official said on Thursday.

Currently, India has 20 gigawatt of renewable generation capacity, constituting 11 percent of installed capacity, India’s renewable energy secretary Deepak Gupta said. (Reporting by Nidhi Verma; editing by Malini Menon)
