OSLO, July 13 (REUTERS) - Production at BP’s Valhall oil platform in the North Sea off Norway was closed down and evacuated on Wednesday after a fire, state broadcaster NRK said.
The fire started in a compressor on the production platform in the oil field around 1500 GMT on Wednesday, NRK said.
Valhall is an oil field located in the southern part of the North Sea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, operated by BP with a 28.1 percent stake.
“No persons are injured and no one is missing,” BP spokesman Jan Erik Geirmo told NRK. “We see this as a serious incident.”
NRK said a total 638 people worked at the Valhall Field and that production at the oilfield was now closed and it was uncertain when it would restart.
