 GLOBAL MARKETS
 Asian shares and U.S. stock futures sank on Tuesday, after
 Wall Street suffered its biggest decline since 2011 as
 investors' faith in factors underpinning a bull run in
 markets began to crumble.                       
 
 WORLD OIL PRICES
 Oil prices dropped by 1 percent on Tuesday, extending falls
 from the previous session as global financial markets headed
 south in the wake of one of the biggest intra-day falls ever
 registered on Wall Street.

 South Africa's rand firmed slightly on Monday after the
 governing African National Congress (ANC) party met
 President Jacob Zuma late on Sunday amid growing pressure
 for the leader to step down as head of state.            
 
 
 NIGERIA POLITICSS
 Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday signed an
 executive order aimed at boosting the local production of
 goods and create jobs in the west African
 country.                
 
 
 NIGERIA STOCKS
 Nigerian stocks shed 0.87 percent in late trading on Monday
 as demand for equities waned and investors stayed on the
 sidelines waiting for earnings season to start in three
 weeks, traders said.            
 
 
 KENYA MARKETS
 The Kenyan shilling        was strong against the dollar on
 Monday reaching its strongest level since Nov. 2016, helped
 by inflows from offshore investors buying government debt
 amid low importer demand, traders said.            
 
 
 KENYA POLITICS
 Two Kenyan television channels shut down by the government
 over their coverage of the political opposition resumed
 partial broadcasting on Monday, although a third channel
 remained off the air.            
 
 
 KENYA IVORY
 A prominent American investigator of the illegal ivory and
 rhino horn trade has been found dead in his Nairobi home
 with a stab wound in his neck, media reported.            
 
 
 KENYA TEA
 Kenya's tea export earnings are forecast to rise further
 this year, while total output is expected to improve after a
 fall in production last year, the Agriculture and Food
 Authority's Tea Directorate said on Monday.                
 
 
 KENYA POLITICS
 Kenya police fired teargas on Monday to disperse a crowd of
 more than 100 demonstrators demanding that the government
 reopen three private television channels it shut down last
 week over their coverage of the opposition.                
 
 
 IVORY COAST COCOA
 Low rainfall in most of Ivory Coast's cocoa growing regions
 might hinder the April-to-September mid-crop as trees suffer
 from a lack of moisture, farmers said on Monday.            
 
 
 
 ISRAEL AFRICA MIGRANTS    
 Israel has started handing out notices to 20,000 male
 African migrants giving them two months to leave the country
 or risk being thrown in jail.            
 
 
 ETHIOPIA PRISONERS
 An Ethiopian court sentenced a senior opposition leader to
 six months in jail for contempt of court on Monday because
 he raised his hand when addressed by the judge rather than
 standing, his lawyer said.            
 
 
 CONGO USA SANCTIONS
 The United States sanctioned a top general and three rebel
 leaders from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on
 Monday, accusing them of human rights abuses and brutal
 attacks against civilians in the east of the Central African
 country.                
 
 
 RANDGOLD RSRCS-RESULTS/CONGO
 International mining companies operating in Democratic
 Republic of Congo are mounting a coordinated campaign
 against a new mining code they say will stifle investment
 there, Randgold's         chief executive told
 Reuters.            
 
 
 AFRICA MINING/CONGO
 Democratic Republic of Congo's state mining company
 Gecamines said on Monday it wanted to start renegotiating
 contracts with its international partners to secure a bigger
 share of revenues and would seek international arbitration
 if they refused.             
 
 
 CONGO REBEL
 A renegade Congolese colonel who had threatened to depose
 President Joseph Kabila has been extradited from Tanzania
 and will be prosecuted for rebellion, Congo's defence
 minister said on Monday.            
 
 
 CONGO VIOLENCE
 At least 30 people have been killed in two days of ethnic
 clashes between Hema herders and Lendu farmers in the
 Democratic Republic of Congo's northeastern Ituri province,
 local authorities said on Monday.                
 
 BOTSWANA BUDGET
 Botswana's economy is projected to expand at a faster pace
 this year compared to last year as the mining sector
 benefits from a recovery in the global economy, Finance
 Minister Kenneth Matambo said on Monday.              
 
 
 UGANDA MARKETS
 The Ugandan shilling        was inclined toward the weaker
 side on Monday amid a pick-up in appetite for hard currency
 from commercial banks.                
 
 
 ISLAMIC FINANCE/UGANDA
 The government of Uganda has approved regulations covering
 Islamic banking with the central bank expecting to publish
 them soon as part of wider efforts to boost financial
 inclusion in the East African country.                
 
 
 UGANDA PMI
 The pace of economic activity in Uganda's private-sector
 slowed in January from the previous month, depressed by
 soaring input costs for firms, a survey showed on
 Monday.                
 
 
 WEST AFRICA SHIP
 Pirates freed a ship carrying 22 Indian crew and 13,500
 tonnes of gasoline on Tuesday, Hong Kong-based
 Anglo-Eastern, which was managing the ship, said in a
 statement.            
 
 
 RWANDA BONDS
 Rwanda will sell a five-year treasury bond worth 15 billion
 francs ($17.87 million) this month to fund infrastructure
 projects, the central bank said on its website.
