Kenya's central bank says to hold next MPC meeting on 5 Aug

NAIROBI, July 14 (Reuters) - Kenya’s central bank said it will hold its next Monetary Policy Committee meeting on 5 August, a month after the bank raised the benchmark lending rate by 1.5 percentage points to ease inflation fears due to a weaker shilling.

The bank has upped rates by 3 percentage points to 11.5 percent since June to offset a weaker shilling, which is down about 13 percent against the dollar this year.

It announced its meeting date on its website late on Monday. (Reporting by Drazen Jorgic; Editing by George Obulutsa)
