Smoke seen at Italian embassy in Libyan capital

ALGIERS, May 1 (Reuters) - Smoke is rising from the Italian embassy building in the Libyan capital, a witness told Reuters on Sunday.

“I am across the road from the Italian embassy. I can see smoke still coming out of the embassy. It was on fire,” the witness said by telephone. “There is no one there now, just a security car to stop other people coming.”

Most Western governments evacuated their embassy staff from Tripoli around the time NATO began air strikes on Libya several weeks ago. (Writing by Christian Lowe)
