FACTBOX-Latest military activity in Libya

May 21 (Reuters) - Following are the latest available details of military activity in Libya:

* NATO’s bombing campaign in Libya has crippled the government’s ability to attack rebels fighting to topple Muammar Gaddafi and effectively forced the leader into hiding, the alliance said on Friday.

* Russia stepped up its criticism of the NATO-led air operation in Libya on Friday, calling for increased United Nations and African Union peace-making efforts to stem the violence.

* Since NATO took over command of air strikes on March 31, its aircraft have conducted 7,585 sorties, including 2,926 strike sorties.

* NATO said it conducted 157 air sorties on Friday, 58 of the strike sorties that aim to identify and hit targets but do not always deploy munitions.

It said key targets on Friday included:

— One command-and-control node, one armoured vehicle storage facility, and five multiple rocket launchers in the vicinity of Tripoli

— One command-and-control node in the vicinity of Sebha

— One ammunition storage facility and three surface-to-air missile launchers in the vicinity of Sirte

— Three rocket launchers in the vicinity of Zintan

* Twenty-one ships under NATO command are patrolling the central Mediterranean Sea to enforce a U.N. arms embargo. On Friday, 10 vessels were hailed to determine destination and cargo. One was boarded.

* Since the beginning of the arms embargo operations, 992 vessels have been hailed, 47 boarded and seven diverted. (Reporting by David Brunnstrom; Editing by Jon Hemming)
