Libyan government says Zawiyah revolt defeated

TRIPOLI, June 12 (Reuters) - Rebel fighters tried to enter the town of Zawiyah, west of Tripoli, but were defeated after a few hours of fighting, a Libyan government spokesman said on Sunday.

“This is just another proof of how weak and unpopular they (the rebels) are,” spokesman Moussa Ibrahim told a news conference. The rebels “cannot achieve any advance against the Libyan government”, he said. (Reporting by Nick Carey; Writing by Christian Lowe; Editing by Louise Ireland)
