Genel Energy and partners plug Morocco's Sidi Moussa-1 well

Genel Energy and its partner firms will plug the SM-1 well, drilled in the Sidi Moussa Offshore permit off the town of Sidi Ifni pending further evaluation of the area, the Moroccan Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM) said in a statement.

“The well was drilled to a total depth of 2825 metres under the seabed, and encountered oil in the Upper Jurassic. During well control operations, oil has been produced to the surface.

“However, tests have failed to produce continuous oil flow,” the statement added.

Genel’s partners in the permit are Serica Energy, San Leon and Morocco’s ONHYM. (Reporting by Aziz El Yaakoubi; editing by Jason Neely)
