 GLOBAL MARKETS
 Asia stocks rose modestly on Tuesday following data showing
 China's economy grew a little faster than expected in the
 first quarter.                       
 
 WORLD OIL PRICES
 Oil prices rose on Tuesday amid worries there could be a
 high risk of disruptions to supply, especially in the Middle
 East.

 SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
 South Africa's rand inched firmer on Monday on subdued trade
 as weak retail sales from the United States and nervousness
 globally over Western missiles fired at Syria at the weekend
 kept investors on the sidelines. Stocks rose led by
 banks.            
 
 SOUTH AFRICA MINING
 Diversified miner Vedanta Resources Plc         on Monday
 named South African miner AngloGold Ashanti Ltd's         
 Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan as chief executive
 officer.                
 
 NIGERIA OIL
 Nigerian oil company Oando            climbed to an 8-month
 high on Monday, its third straight rise after regulators
 lifted a trading suspension on its shares.            
 NIGERIA SECURITY     
 *Nigerian police fired bullets and tear gas to disperse
 Shi'ite Muslim protesters marching for their leader's
 freedom in the capital on Monday, and organisers said at
 least one demonstrator was killed and several were wounded
 by gunfire.            
 * Gunmen in the northern Nigerian state of Kano killed a
 policeman and abducted a Germany citizen on Monday as they
 travelled to a construction site, police said.              
 
 KENYA MARKETS
 The Kenyan shilling        strengthened against the dollar
 on Monday due to inflows from horticulture exports amid thin
 demand from importers, traders said.            
 
 KENYA POLITICS
 Three Kenyan election officials resigned on Monday,
 increasing chaos at the electoral Commission following last
 year's botched presidential vote that had to be rerun and
 was then boycotted by the opposition.              
 ETHIOPIA ECONOMY
 Ethiopia's new prime minister said on Monday that a foreign
 exchange shortage will last for years and more cooperation
 with the private sector is essential to solve it, state
 television reported.               
 
 ANGOLA OIL
 Angola's provisional export plan for June shows cargo
 loadings that are set to slip to 1.44 million barrels per
 day (bpd) of oil in June, the lowest reflected in Reuters
 data in seven years.                   
 
 GUINEA BISSAU POLITICS        
 Guinea-Bissau's President Jose Mario Vaz appointed veteran
 politician Aristides Gomes as prime minister on Monday,
 according to a decree read on state-owned media, in an
 attempt to end a prolonged political crisis.                
 
 ZAMBIA OIL    
 Zambia has short-listed five companies including Britain's
 Glencore Energy Ltd. and Sahara Energy Resources Ltd. to buy
 a majority stake in its only oil refinery, a state-owned
 firm said on Monday.               
 
 ZIMBABWE ECONOMY
 Zimbabwe stuck on Monday to its plan to clear its debt
 arrears by September with the aim to tap international
 capital markets by the end of the year, though that timeline
 would be "very fast-tracked."            
 
 TANZANIA WEATHER
 At least nine people in Tanzania's commercial capital died
 after heavy rains flooded homes and roads, authorities said
 on Monday.
