ADDIS ABABA, Dec 3 (Reuters) - The African Union said on Friday it was deeply concerned by developments in Ivory Coast and stressed that it was imperative that the will of the people and the outcome of elections be respected.
"Any other approach risks plunging Ivory Coast into a crisis with incalculable consequences for the country, as well as for the region and the continent as a whole," the AU said in a statement.
The statement was published shortly after Ivory Coast's Constitutional Court overturned provisional results from the electoral commission that handed victory to opposition candidate Alassane Ouattara, and said a revised tally gave incumbent Laurent Gbagbo 51 percent of the vote against 49 percent for Ouattara.
